Many of you know my mother was a beloved educator. When she passed, I made it my mission to continue the work she did, helping guide children toward a promising future. When I was asked to mentor students at Worthing High School, I heard my momma’s voice telling me not to mess this up! I knew there would be challenges. I didn’t care. No excuses, no turning back. I never expected anything in return, just pride in seeing students beat the odds and achieve greatness. Then, I received a call saying they would be presenting me with a lifelong symbol of the life and promise I helped bring to the lives of young men and women. On this day, a tree planted in my honor became part of the school’s legacy. Man, If you had told me years ago I would be standing here with my wife by my side, receiving this tremendous gift of gratitude, I wouldn’t have believed it. Thank you to Kelly Martens and Lighthouse for Students, the staff, faculty, and students of Worthing H.S. and to the friends and family who keep me grounded and encouraged. I pray you are happy, momma. This one is for you.
